Wanda Jackson • 2015 Kansas Business Appreciation Merit Award

Kansas Business Appreciation Merit
Award at a Cowley County Business
Appreciation Month Luncheon. Jackson,
along with Randy Waldeck, operates
this Dexter restaurant, which last spring
began partnering with the Dexter School
District to create the “School Lunch Bus.” The very successful open lunch
program allows high school students to eat lunch at the grill twice each
month. Jackson says, “The student council worked hard to implement the
program, and I am thankful – because the kids love it and look forward to it.”
Jane Fry • Finalist at National Festival of Breads
Jane Fry of Elk Falls was a finalist at the Kansas
Wheat Commission’s National Festival of Breads
bread-baking contest this year. Fry was the first adult
Kansan to qualify for the contest (which is held every
other year in Manhattan), and her Chocolate Swirl
Loaves recipe was one of just eight chosen from 500
entries. Fry says, “I felt very honored to represent
Kansas bakers and am blessed to have achieved my goal.” She encourages
all bread bakers to enter their favorite original yeast bread recipe.

2016 DIRECTORY COVER
There’s plenty of time to “Take a Shot” at getting your photo on our
2016 Southeast Kansas Area Telephone Directory cover. Not only that
— you could be the happy winner of $100, $50, or $25 from SKT!
The deadline for this year’s photo contest is October 5, 2015. SKT
customers in Atlanta, Beaumont, Burden, Cambridge, Dexter, Elk
Falls, Grenola, Latham, Longton, Piedmont, Reece, and Rosalia are
invited to enter by submitting up to three photographs that have
been taken in these SKT service areas. Photos may be emailed to
or prints may be mailed to SKT
Directory Contest, PO Box 800, Clearwater, KS, 67026, or brought to
the SKT Solution Center at 112 S. Lee in Clearwater. Please be sure to
include the photographer’s name, address, telephone number, and a
brief description of the photo(s). Prints will be returned, if requested.
This year’s winners will be announced by mid-October, with $100 going
to the winner, whose photograph will also be printed on the front cover
of over 1,500 telephone directories. The second place and third place
winners will receive $50 and $25, respectively. All photographs will be
displayed on SKT’s website,
Last year’s Southeast Kansas Directory Cover Contest winners were
Richard Tatum of Burden, Stephanie Easton of Beaumont, and Jane
Fry of Elk Falls.
