Landline vs. Wireless Phones
T
here are many ways to keep in touch and each has its own advantages and disadvan-
tages. Wheat State Telephone wants you to be aware of the differences between land-
line and wireless phone services so you can make informed decisions for your family.
For many people, a combination of landline and wireless phone services is the
right choice. Call Wheat State Telephone for help with all of your landline needs.
Landline
• You have unlimited local calling.
• You receive a free listing in the telephone
directory.
• In an emergency, E-911 service can trace
your exact location.
• A landline telephone works during a
power outage.
• For added convenience, landlines offer
features like Call Waiting, Call Forward,
and Voice Mail.
Wireless
• Incoming and outgoing calls count
against your total minutes.
• In an emergency, E-911 service may not
be able to pinpoint your exact location.
• During a power outage, you will have to
wait for power to be restored before you
can charge your phone.
• If your home is in an area that does not
provide clear reception, your calls may
be patchy, unclear, or dropped.
You’re probably familiar with the law that
says you must call 811 before digging
on your property. But do you know what
happens after you make that call?
Locate crews from member utility
companies are told where you are plan-
ning to dig and they will typically arrive
within a few days to mark the location of
underground utility lines. These mark-
ings may be done with paint or flags
and will use this universal color code:
Red
– Electric
Orange
– Communications,
Telephone/CATV
Blue
– Potable Water
Green
– Sewer/Drainage
Yellow
– Gas/Petroleum Pipe Line
Purple
– Reclaimed Water
White
– Premark site of intended
excavation
Check the digging area carefully before
proceeding with your project. Make
sure to dig around the marks and not on
them. Some utility lines may be buried
at a shallow depth, and an unintended
shovel thrust can bring you right back to
square one, facing potentially dangerous
and/or costly consequences.
Safe digging is no accident.
Always call 811 before you dig.
